Street Lights

Project Statement

2015-2019: Street Photography in the city of Portland Oregon.

I started this project back in 2015 as I commuted to the downtown and Pearl areas of Portland. Each day, I wanted to identify the daily elements that make up the great city of Portland.

One of the great elements of living in the Pacific Northwest is how the light changes throughout the year. The morning commute can be dark as night, mid-sunrise, or bright sun. The afternoon commute is similar. High noon can cast long shadows or act as a spotlight.

This project will conclude at the end of 2019. A book will be produced and available for distribution. If you would like to be notified about updates, please complete the form below the gallery.

Subjects Needed: 25/100 Project

Project Statement

I am new to the art of portrait photography. My background and training stem from Youtube and Google searches. I have viewed and ingested the theory, now it is time to put that theory into practice. With this project, I intended to photography 25 subjects using basic lighting setups (one key light with modifiers in a studio). I hope to create and capture four, presentation worthy images of each subject.

What is a portrait?

A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.

Based in Portland, Oregon, I am an aspiring photographer, comedian, baker, and adult. For real money, I sell my skills as a Certified Salesforce Administrator.

All the images on this site were created by myself using a Sony A series camera or an iPhone, and edited using Luminar. If you have any questions about how something was captured, created, or edited, please ask. I am happy to help. If you would like to purchase an image, I am happy to sell one to you.

A good photograph is knowing where to stand.

My dad bought a camera for my mom back when they were dating. This is that camera. I took it from her some time ago and used it throughout high school and college.
