Social Media Studio Portraits

Headshots and portraits for social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and blogs are never going to be out of fashion. In a studio, you can get a lot of looks in a short amount of time.

One Light Setup

Studios and sunlight are great, but all you ever need is one good light. The rest is all personality. Here we have a really simple setup in my garage. The muted colors and gray outfit allow his smile and personality to come forward. A portrait is all about the subject (and lighting), the location is irrelevant.

Studio Portrait – Look One

We shot this session at a local Portland, OR studio using some amazing lighting and backdrops. She brought several outfits and accessories so we could play around. The studio is a great place to make an outfit change and get a lot of different looks at one time.

Post Graduate Headshot

If you are finishing up your college career, you will want to consider an updated headshot for LinkedIn and other job related sites. At this session we just shot this in the office next to a bank of windows. I used the black side of a reflector as the backdrop.

Outdoor Headshot

Portraits and headshots don’t have to take place indoors. For this shot we strolled around the streets of Portland, OR looking for some interesting background texture. We knew we wanted something to make her pop off the background. We used open shade and a diffuser to control the harsh sunlight. In the end, she used this image to update and rebrand her online profiles.

Studio Portrait – Look Two

We shot this session at a local Portland, OR studio using some amazing lighting and backdrops. She brought several outfits and accessories so we could play around. The studio is a great place to make an outfit change and get a lot of different looks at one time.
